Court rejects appeal against “Thinking Out Loud” decision

The US Supreme Court has rejected the appeal, made by Structured Asset Sales (SAS), against the decision to dismiss the second copyright case over Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”, following a ruling back in May 2023, by U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton.

Mark Krais had the following to say on the news:

“It’s reassuring to see the US Supreme Court draw a line in the sand after a decade of legal back and forth. Yesterday’s decision is a helpful reminder for songwriters and the wider music industry – both across the pond and here in the UK – that no one owns the building blocks of music and it underscores the importance of safeguarding independent creation.”
